Challenge
A leading global brewery with a portfolio spanning beer, soft drinks, water and wine — more than 40,000 employees, 500-plus brands, products sold in over 150 markets — had let digital transformation take a back seat while the business concentrated on product development.
The sharpest consequence was on the shop floor. Autonomous maintenance tasks, particularly clean/inspect/lubricate (CIL) procedures, were documented on laminated paper sheets. They were rarely used and carried outdated images and information. There was no way to tell whether operators had completed the process, and completion-rate data across teams and machines was inadequate. That left the company unable to accurately track a critical procedure — and without confidence that its machines were being maintained to an optimal standard.
Solution
The brewery digitised its CIL procedures using the CAI Parsable connected worker platform. A line worker opens a CIL job in the mobile app and follows clear instructions carrying interactive rich media — inline video, photos, GIFs and PDFs — showing how to complete each task correctly.
During a routine inspection, an operator can log the details of an equipment issue in the app and share it immediately with a line leader or maintenance. Supervisors get a real-time view of what is happening and can respond to triage it. Management sees every CIL job summarised in dashboards, and can hover over an individual station to see the status of a CIL, when it was completed, how long it took and whether any issues were raised — across machines and across locations.
