Challenge

Coast Seafood and its logistics subsidiary Agile Logistics set out to build sustainability reporting that could stand up to scrutiny — covering emissions from both seafood production and transportation, with reporting scheduled to begin on 1 January 2024.

The hard part was establishing an accurate baseline. Emissions modelling in logistics depends heavily on the assumptions behind it, and small errors in those assumptions produce misleading figures. Coast Seafood needed a foundation solid enough to define meaningful KPIs, and reports precise enough to show whether a given measure — shipping more fish and less packaging, or switching to lower-carbon transport — actually moved the number.

Solution

Coast Seafood selected CAI Maritech Sustainability Reporting. Because the company already ran CAI Maritech software across both its logistics and seafood operations, transport and sales data was already in place — and the same project added environmental data from production, covering the most material sources of emissions in one solution.

Working closely with the CAI Maritech team from August, Coast Seafood designed a detailed calculation model spanning transport routes, vehicle types and cargo estimates, built to capture the effect of specific environmental measures rather than produce a headline figure.

Results

  • Emissions reporting live from 1 January 2024, covering both production and transportation
  • Detailed calculation model across transport routes, vehicle types and cargo estimates
  • A clear baseline of current performance, making it possible to define meaningful KPIs
  • Reports that isolate the effect of individual measures, so the best-performing ones can be identified
  • Environmental data from production combined with existing transport and sales data in one system
  • Greater organizational engagement — measurable targets increase execution power

The Impact

Key Features Used

  • Automated CO2 emissions calculation across single transports, categories, projects and periods
  • Transport route, vehicle type and cargo modelling
  • Production emissions data capture
  • Integration with existing CAI Maritech logistics and seafood systems
  • KPI definition and baseline measurement
  • Effect reporting — measuring the impact of individual environmental measures
