Challenge

Silver Seafood, founded in Midsund in 2012 by Jim Martin Sørlie and Preben Godø, is one of Norway's leading shellfish suppliers. Its speciality is langoustine, exported live to premium markets across the USA, Asia and Europe — and to a small number of exceptional customers at home, including the Michelin-starred Speilsalen in Trondheim and the Bocuse d'Or world chef championship.

Shipping a live, perishable product to that standard demands documentation to match, and the paperwork had become the bottleneck. Certification tags were printed by hand and assembled manually to make sure every consignment carried what it needed — a labour-intensive process that left a permanent stack of paper on the managing director's desk. Having used CAI Maritech Packing since the company began, Silver Seafood wanted to digitise considerably more of how it worked.

Solution

Silver Seafood adopted CAI Maritech Purchase & Sales after its launch in autumn 2019, among the earliest customers to take up the system. The initial objective was straightforward: get all of the information into the orders themselves, so documentation travelled with the consignment rather than alongside it.

The company later added CAI Maritech Document Services and CAI Maritech Analytics for stronger document flow and control, and to simplify reporting. Midway through the implementation Silver Seafood established a wholesale arm, Silver Seafood Engros, in collaboration with Lerøy Seafood Group. The new wholesale business adopted the cloud tools first, and they are now core across the whole company.
