Challenge

Grieg Seafood is a global salmon farmer with operations in Norway and Canada. When the company established its integrated sales organization, it set out to streamline every trading-related process with modern, cloud-based tools — and took on its own logistics operations at the same time.

Seafood logistics carries a structural problem: the gap between what is forecast and what actually happens. Order detail rarely firms up until one to two days before transport, yet transport has to be booked several days ahead. Changes arrive constantly, often several per order, and each one cascades into transport bookings, customer communications and allocation. Managing that volatility on disconnected tools — with no reliable data flow between the sales system and logistics operations — was a constraint on growth.

Solution

The collaboration began with CAI Maritech Purchase & Sales, which gives Grieg Seafood a full company overview with traceability and control throughout the value chain. Built on seafood industry best practices and delivered as SaaS on Microsoft Azure, it became the backbone of the new sales organization.

Logistics followed. System support was needed before the cloud platform was ready to cover transport processes, so an interim transport system carried the load through a bridging period. After an implementation phase that began by mapping requirements and comparing experience across systems, Grieg Seafood went live with CAI Maritech Transport Planning — phase one of a full transition to cloud-based supply chain management, with two further phases planned.
