Challenge

Grupo Bimbo is a Mexico-based consumer packaged goods company and the largest bakery in the world, operating in more than 30 countries with revenue of approximately $15.6 billion. "Building a sustainable, highly productive and deeply humane company" sits at the heart of its philosophy, and associate well-being is a stated priority.

Across its Bimbo QSR business — 20 plants in 10 countries — the safety programme was not standardised. Didier Moleres, VP of Global Operations, Gerardo Gordillo, Global Director of Human Resources, and Luz Alanis, Corporate Operations Manager, identified inconsistency across three critical components: safety incident investigations used to identify hazards and corrective actions; safety observations used to flag unsafe actions or conditions in a work area; and the processes guiding how safety data was collected and analysed across plants. Without consistency, there was no reliable way to generate insight from the programme.

Solution

CAI Parsable was already in use on the manufacturing side of Bimbo QSR, in a project led by Luz Alanis. The team applied the same connected worker technology to safety as part of a wider upgrade of the occupational safety programme.

Best-practice standard operating procedures for both safety incident investigations and safety observations were standardised, digitised in Parsable, and distributed to bakeries worldwide in eight languages — the whole programme moving from concept to implementation in eight weeks. To get the translations right, Bimbo QSR ran virtual workshops with native speakers across all ten countries, ensuring specific safety terminology carried accurately into the digital procedures.

Results

  • From concept to implementation in eight weeks
  • Standardised safety SOPs digitised and distributed to bakeries in eight languages across ten countries
  • Real-time leadership visibility into safety performance at enterprise-wide, regional and facility-specific levels
  • Incident reporting deadlines embedded in the workflow — 24 hours to report, 72 hours to complete the investigation — with a traffic-light system tracking early, overdue and late closures
  • Root cause analysis and corrective action plans developed and tracked in the same system
  • Safety observation data able to distinguish business-wide gaps from facility-specific issues
  • Observations sortable by safety category, region, country, facility, month and year
  • Manufacturing location options ordered to match the process sequence, cutting time spent scrolling
  • Translation accuracy assured through native-speaker workshops across all ten countries
