In a recent Forbes Business Council article, Elizabeth Schillo, GM and CCO at CAI Software, argues that manufacturers succeed with Industry 4.0 when they treat AI as a way to speed up good decisions, not as a replacement for the judgment their people have built over decades.
She points to four things that must work together: production, people, domain knowledge, and AI. Technology should earn its place by improving a measurable production result. The tools need to be built around the frontline workers and engineers who hold knowledge no model has seen. AI also needs real industry context to be useful. Her test for maturity is whether you can point to a specific result, such as a deal closed faster, a defect rate reduced, or a customer retained.
