Challenge
Lund's Fisheries is a vertically integrated New Jersey seafood business, known for quality and for being the only U.S. company harvesting three domestic squid species. It also works in scallops and wider seafood trading, with much of its product MSC certified.
The volume of data the operation generates is substantial — hundreds of millions of rows accumulated over just a few years, and growing. Analysis meant laborious data extraction, manipulation in Excel and reliance on several separate programs. Executives waited for reports rather than reaching for them, which is a poor fit for an industry where prices and demand move daily and decisions cannot wait for a reporting cycle.
Solution
Lund's Fisheries adopted CAI Maritech Analytics. Two things made it the natural choice: it is built specifically around seafood processes rather than adapted to them, and it runs on Power BI, a platform the team already understood.
Executives now use the platform daily, with sales, customer and inventory reporting available on demand rather than on request — historical and real-time, accessible wherever they are working.
Results
- Executives use analytics daily, with data available on demand instead of waiting for reports
- Both historical and real-time data accessible from anywhere, supporting fast decisions
- Retroactive inventory analysis — the ability to examine past inventory levels, described as a critical function for seafood
- Inventory flow, positioning and price level mapped, translating directly to cash flow and sales
- Improved inventory planning
- Customer order patterns analysed to identify trends and shape engagement
- Lost business regained and overall sales volume increased
- Manual extraction and Excel manipulation across multiple programs eliminated
- Reports built once become a permanent asset rather than a repeated effort
