Looking for Software to Do More for Less

Prior to selecting Ponderosa Software, Doulgas Lumber had been using a legacy software solution from a supplier who was constantly increasing their software support fees.   Steve Rendine, General Manager for Douglas Lumber said, “After a thorough review we chose Ponderosa Software because it will help us improve efficiency while reducing our software support fees.”

“We signed on with Ponderosa in 2012 and our support has been fantastic,” Rendine continued.  “We have fostered a great relationship with our consultant at Ponderosa and he’s been with us since day one.  It’s great knowing that a knowledgeable person with an intimate understanding of our operations is just a phone call, email or text message away.  These days it’s hard to find that personal level of support. With Ponderosa, we have.”

Jim McCooey, president at Computer Associates, developers of the Ponderosa Software said, “Ponderosa has a solid, 35-year history in the LBM industry not only because of the quality of our products but also our unique approach to supporting our customers.”  An experienced, LBM Business Consultant is assigned to each customer on Day One and oversees their care from that point forward to ensure continued success.

“At some point, every company encounters a new revenue opportunity or business challenge.” McCooey added.  “When it comes to an unforeseen need to modify, extend or customize the software’s capabilities, having consistent access to knowledgeable, personal support and an Account Manager that has a full understanding of your specific implementation is critical.”

“Our partnership with our consultant and the team at Ponderosa extends over more than five years now,” Rendine said.  “Looking back, I don’t think we could be any happier with our decision.”

Upgrading Point-of-Sale Stations to Support Chip-based EMV Cards, Guard Against Losses

As a retailer with several point-of-sale (POS) stations, Douglas realized that it needed to eventually upgrade the stations to support the new chip-based (EMV) payment to guard against liabilities and losses arising from a data breach or when a fraudulent card is used in their store.

These EMV cards, which contain a chip that stores the consumer’s data replace the card's traditional magnetic stripe—makes it harder for hackers to make a counterfeit of the card if they steal the account information. The card generates a unique code for every transaction so if fraudsters steal data from a retailer, they won't be able to use that information to make future purchases.

“We recently completed this major upgrade of our ERP business software, including an overhaul of our POS stations for the new EMV chip-based payment cards. After some challenges with the hardware and its supplier, the guys at Ponderosa were on the spot resolving the issues with minimal impact and disruption to our day-to-day operations.

“Ponderosa has been instrumental in our ability to adopt and deploy the latest technology to automate and improve our business. We’ve enjoyed a very supportive relationship and look forward to working with the team at Ponderosa to continue to embrace new business technology.”
